Manufacturing Technology Option

Degrees Offered: Bachelor of Science and Associate of Technology
Information effective for students admitted since fall 2007.

This option is designed for individuals seeking management-level careers in the manufacturing industries. Your courses may include computer-aided drafting and design (CADD), materials technologies, computer numerical control (CNC), materials testing, machine tool design, power conversion and control, and robotics. This specialization offers both a bachelor's degree program (4 years, typ.) and an associate's degree program (2 years, typ.).

The coursework you'll complete is divided into two basic categories – general education (required by the University) and departmental requirements (major coursework). The information below details the departmental requirements for both the bachelor's degree and the associate's degree.

Technical Literacy Core: 9 credit hours (3 courses)

  • ITEC 110 - Communications Systems (3 cr.)

Management Core: 15 credit hours (5 courses)

  • BUAD 161 - Introduction to Financial Accounting (3 cr.)

  1. A maximum of six credit hours of cooperative education will be counted towards graduation requirements.
  2. OSEH 320: Safety Engineering Principles, is required for all contsruction technology majors.

  • ITEC 336 - Characteristics and Testing of Production Materials (3 cr.)
  • ITEC 425 - Robotic Systems (3 cr.)
  • ITEC 445 – Design for Manufacture and Assembly (3 cr.)
  • ITEC 448 - Machine Tool Design (3 cr.)*

    ITEC 342 (242) is a prerequsite for ITEC 448 and can be taken as a free elective.

Associate of Technology - Industrial Technology (2 year, typ.)

 

The associate's degree Manufacturing Technology option is for those students looking to secure technician level position in industry. In addition to the Universities general education requirements, you will complete the coursework listed below. If you decide that you want to continue on to work towards a bachelor's degree, the classes you take for your associates degree will work in seamlessly into a four year plan.
