The MAT is a high level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are completed in 60 minutes. The MAT is intended to measure the ability to recognize relationships between ideas, fluency in the English language, and general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. Dictionaries or any other reference aides are not permitted when taking the MAT.
The MU Test Center is a Controlled Testing Center (CTC) for Harcourt Assessment, Inc. and offers the computer-based MAT, by appointment only. The MAT is administered in the computer testing lab located in room G-48 in the basement of Lyle Hall. When registering, please specify a first and second choice of test dates. Registration and test date/time will be confirmed via email upon receipt of registration and fee payment. Official score reports are typically received by the institution(s) you designate in approximately 10-15 business days. Schedule early to ensure a seat for your preferred date and to meet your application deadlines.
NOTE: Deadlines for Millersville University graduate programs with firm application deadlines are October 1 for winter/spring admission and February 1 for summer/fall admission. Please check the graduate studies website for more information regarding graduate program application deadlines.
On Test Day : Candidates are encouraged to arrive no later than fifteen minutes before the scheduled test time. Late arrivals may not be admitted to the test room. Two forms of valid I.D. with signature and photo (e.g. Driver's License, Student I.D., Passport, etc.) are required.
Repeating the MAT: If you are repeating the MAT within the last twelve months, you must bring your Retest Admission Ticket to the test session. If you have misplaced your Retest Admission Ticket, contact Harcourt Assessment, Inc. at 800-622-3231 to order a replacement copy. Scoring information: An unofficial printed score report will be provided to you following the conclusion of the test.
You will receive your personal Score Report in two to three weeks from the date of your test. Your personal Score Reports will provide you with the scaled score and percentile ranks you received on the MAT. The MAT scaled scores currently range from 200 to 600 with a mean (average) of 400. The percentile ranks on your personal Score Report indicate the percentage of examinees in the norm group (2003 Norms) who received a scaled score lower than yours. Percentile rank ranges from 1 to 99.
Your personal Score Report also includes a listing of the recipient schools you chose to receive your scores. Official Score Reports are typically received by the designated school(s) two to three weeks from the date that Harcourt Assessment receives your test. Any questions regarding the reporting of scores after the test date should be directed to Harcourt Assessment, Inc.

Preparation for the MAT: The MAT is a reflection of the breath and depth of your accumulated knowledge to date in a variety of discipline areas. Test prep books, which contain sample tests and strategies for taking the MAT, are available from local bookstores. The MAT Candidate Information Booklet contains complete information about the Miller Analogies Test as well as practice test information and is available on-line at www.MillerAnalogies.com. The MAT Candidate Information Booklet can also be obtained directly from the MU Test Center .

It includes information about applying to take the test, the contents of the test, and what happens after you have taken the test. The website also includes strategies for solving analogies, sample items, and a practice test to help test-takers prepare for the MAT.
Candidates with Special Needs: Any candidate requiring a testing session under accommodated conditions, please contact the Test Center at 717-872-3710 to discuss the requirements necessary to qualify and the procedures for setting up such a session.
