ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Leadership Institute for Undergraduate Women provides a forum for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to nurture the leadership potential of women students.  It creates an experience that empowers women as leaders, challenges women to realize their full potential as leaders, and connects women with other women who are committed to social change.

When:  The 20th Annual Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PSSHE) Women's Consortium Summer Leadership Institute for undergraduate women will be held on SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2008 – FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 2008.

Goals:

Develop and strengthen women’s leadership skills, creativity, and respect for diversity;

Establish a network of women throughout the PASSHE and promote existing networks of women at each of the fourteen universities;

Encourage mentoring relationships among women in the PASSHE;

Provide for informal learning opportunities for students to interact with faculty members, staff, and administrators; and

Help students develop campus projects to practice skills learned at the Institute under the direction of a mentor on their campus.

Format: Instructional sessions are conducted by talented women who contribute not only to the content of learning activities, but also serve as role models and potential mentors.  All sessions are interactive, requiring participants to engage in discussions, role plays, and simulations.  Students meet in small groups to process and apply information as well as learn from each others’ experiences.  Guest speakers, outdoor recreation, and team building exercises also create multiple learning opportunities.  Additionally, literature, music, and videos about women and women’s issues are available on site.
