The Women's Studies program will be hosting a banquet to celebrate our 10th anniversary on 20 March from 1 - 3 pm in Lehr Dining Room, Bolger Conferece Center.  Unfortunately, this banquet must be by invitation only, but please join us for our other celebratory events listed below!  For alumni planning to attend the banquet, consider staying at Best Western's The Inn At Millersville

Public Lecture

From Cinderella to Barbie: Women and Mobility Cross-Culturally by Dr. Farzaneh Milani, Director of Studies in Women and Gender at the University of Virginia
Tuesday, March 16, 7 p.m., Ford Atrium, McComsey Hall.  Co-sponsored with International Studies Program and the Office of International Affairs.

Representation of Women's Bodies in Advertising and Sports.

Wednesday, March 17 4-6 p.m., McComsey 204.

Video clips on the topic of women’s bodies in advertising and sports.  Discussion will follow the video presentation and center on media representations of the idealized, yet impossible female body, the effects of this image on female psyche and nutrition, and the reception of female bodies into the masculine space of sports.

Representation of Women’s Bodies in Music. 

Thursday, March 18, 6-8 p.m., McComsey 204.

Panel discussion and video presentation on representations of the female body in the music industry. We will ponder such questions as “Would Ella Fitzgerald have a career in today’s body image conscious music industry?” and “What role does the female body provide in music video narratives?”

Labryinth Walk

Tuesday, March 16, 3 - 7 p.m. and Wednesday, March 17 - 11a.m. – 1 p.m.

SMC Multi-Purpose Room. The labyrinth is a walking meditation - the path guides you; it is not a maze, but a path into the center  and out again.  As your conscious mind is released, spiritual awareness is increased, and insights may occur.
