Soulful Expressions is an open mike session with spoken word, poetry, and musical selections provided by students and local artists, as well as poet Shihan, seen on Def Poetry Jam.  Shihan, a native of the lower east side of New York began his career 1989 winning a scholarship for creative writing to the Willston North Hampton School.  Shihan is one of the most creative and powerful spoken word artist of our time, with awards and accolades to prove so.  This National Poetry Slam Champion, has made appearances on a slue of media outlets such as Def Poetry, Oprah Winfrey’s Oxygen Network, Nike’s Battlegrounds, as well as the film Belly.  Shihan has also participated in the Def Poetry Jam International tour.  In addition to his many accomplishments, Shihan has two of his own CD’s The Poet, and Music Is The New Cotton.
