WRESTLING: SHIPPENSBURG WINS BEATS MILLERSVILLE 22-15

Jan. 23 – The Millersville University wrestling team fell to Shippensburg 22-15 at Pucillo Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Cody Becker (sr. Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove HS), Jarrett Hostetter (jr. Oxford, Pa./Oxford HS) and Steve Funk (sr. Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge HS) recorded decisions for the Marauders (1-6).

Hostetter’s 8-4 decision over Dan Nauman at 157 pounds gave Millersville a 12-6 lead, but Shippensburg (3-1) won the next two matches, including Chris Barrick’s 16-7 major decision over Jeremy Brooks (so. Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore HS) at 174 pounds.

Funk’s 3-2 decision over Jon Hade gave MU a 15-13 advantage with two matches remaining. Millersville would have needed a major decision victory at 197 pounds to overcome its eventual forfeit of the heavyweight bout, but instead saw Ray Bennett (fr. Clarks Summitt/Abington Heights HS) drop a tough 12-9 decision to Pete Grodziak.

Millersville will travel to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start time.
