The Office of Professional Training & Education creates promotional flyers that are widely distributed across Central Pennsylvania. The flyers go to school districts, intermediate units and a variety of other locations. In addition, postcards are sent to former participants highlighting important information such as registration dates. Promotional ads are also produced for radio and professional association publications to increase awareness of our offerings. Many workshops receive adequate promotion through these vehicles. When we see registration patterns that indicate low enrollments in certain areas, we increase promotion either through direct mailings, additional advertising or via email announcements.
TopThe "contact persons" in the school districts are encouraged to distribute promotional flyers to all teachers. Announcements can be made in district newsletters, on web sites, and in any other publications, which teachers read. Formerly satisfied customers are the best promoters so finding a way to share previous experiences is the best way to generated registrations.
TopWe encourage faculty to promote the workshops whenever they are speaking to an audience of teachers. The production of printed promotional materials by faculty is encouraged only in cases where workshops have limited audiences and additional registrations are probable if publicity is targeted to a specific group (e.g., athletic coaches, home-ec teachers, vo-tech teachers, etc.). Contact the Assistant Director for permission to charge duplicating or mailing costs for a promotional piece to the program budget.
If you are producing your own flyer, please ask Loreal Maguire in PTE to review the draft copy. Other than publishing a flyer, please help promote workshops whenever you can. Talk to teachers or to others who may influence teachers. If you know people in a community where you will be teaching, please use any word-of-mouth means to help promote your workshop and those of other Millersville faculty. In addition, remember that what you do this summer will influence the success of next summer's registrations. Teachers have high expectations and look to our faculty to model the best strategies for promoting learning.
