"Vagina Monologues"
Sun Feb 3/2002, 2pm
Whitaker Center, Harrisburg
Tickets $10; order at 717/214-ARTS

The Vagina Monologues and the V-Day movement are a celebration of women’s sexuality and a statement to stop violence against women. The monologues are made up of true stories collected by Eve Ensler about women exploring sexuality and learning about their bodies. It is a very moving and inspiring collection of stories. The performance is a reading of the Monologues she created and collected in her book. This is the first performance of Vagina Monologues in the area.

Weds Feb 13/2002, SMC Multipurpose room

"My Children, My Africa"
Sun Feb 17/2002, 7pm
Lyte Auditorium in Alumni Hall
Free tickets available starting Jan 28 in SMC

Passion and reasoning are the themes that permeate this play, which begins with a debate between a white middle class girl and a black high school boy from the Cookhouse Ghetto in South Africa. The audience travels with the ensemble company of actors who present this journey from ignorance to knowledge, but not without pain and tragic results. Set in 1984, the play was inspired by an actual incident that occurred in South Africa at that time.

Kweisi Mfume, President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

"Defying Gravity," a play by Jane Anderson
Feb 28-Mar 3, Mar 7-Mar 9
Tickets $4; performance in Rafters Theatre, Dutcher Hall

This free-structured look at the 1986 Challenger disaster places the teacher who died with six other astronauts as they hurtled into space at the center of an exploration of our need to reach beyond ourselves and dare the university. Defying Gravity artfully interweaves past with present, twining the lives of participants and bystanders, and drawing parallels among artists, teachers, elderly tourists, a NASA mechanic, and the grievinig daughter of the teacher selected to be Challenger's civilian astronaut.
